Product Liability
In June of 2006, a Chicago city employee claimed a Segway personal transporter malfunctioned and caused him to fall and injure himself.
According to media outlets, Matthew Fenci was riding the vehicle near 16th and State Street when he brushed up against a building and the two-wheel transporter violently turned, causing him to fall off.
Fenci said that the company issued a recall the following September on certain models of the Segway, saying the vehicles could cause riders to fall by unexpectedly reversing direction. A suit was filed, claiming negligence and product liability.
